Of friendship and the power of word

I would love to open this entry with a quote from the US poet and essayist, Ralph Waldo Emerson. (given to me by Ale-T)
"I awoke this morning with devout thanksgiving for my friends, the old and the new. " I guess you could say i "awoke" after this summer in Ipoh, with a deep sense of gratitude toward friends and the values of love and true community. I am glad God made us humans different. I am glad we are unique. I'm glad some of us are thin and some of us are "phat".=p hahha... I'm glad i click with certain people, and absolutely dislike being with other people. What an amazing world to live in. I love old friends and i love new friends. I love people i love, and i love people i hate. The MYF youth have given me courage and have reminded me what an awesome thing Relationship is.

2 Corinthians 4:17-19
17For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

God is unseen. Love is unseen. And Relationships are unseen entities. And the bible says what is unseen is eternal. The purpose of life? We are made to have vertical and horizontal relationships. To God and to our fellow men. Well, back to the topic at hand... over this summer, i've went out to makan, play frisbee, grabble, , pray, read the bible, went to church, watch movies, hang out, play instruments, blah blah.... with tons of great people.... YOU! So if you read this, i thank you from the bottom of my heart. I just cannot wait for heaven when i will be with you for eternity. =D I pray for all of you, that you keep building up and not tear down.

A Tribute to the Whopper

Yes I'm just in the lab, waiting for a meeting. My Thursdays are going to be packed full. And I just remembered that i've always wanted to blog about the Burger King Whopper. Without cheese, of course. This is certainly one of the best burgers i've ever tasted. In fact, BK should pay me for this "testimonial" haha. If only SuperSizeMe was done using BK rather than McDonald's... the guy would be much happier. Not much healthier, but much happier. =D Anyway, is this possible? Jesusboy not blogging about faith and christianity ?? Once in a blue moon occasion, dude!

Yeah, after over 3-months of not tasting a Whopper. Yesterday i finally bought one of these bad boys together with onion rings and a soda. If you know me, I first remove the top bun and lace the meat with onion rings...or fries..depending on which one i chose. Next, get out a sachet of mayonaisse and extra ketchup and pour it over the Whopper elements. (Now, i know mayo is white and everything... but its NOT made of milk) I know, i've read the ingredients. Besides, my mutant-tongue-with-amazing-sensory-abilities cannot.... i repeat..cannot detect DAIRY. And that pretty much confirms it all. Admire your modification to that wonderful creation for one second. Chomp on it.

Aahhhh,...

I sure hope all whoppers go to heaven. They've served my stomach well. HHAhah! =D Have a great day yall!

p/s: Warning. Please try to prevent G-SHyn and Yi Sheng from reading this entry. Thank you.

A Lesson in Econ

I want to do things that matter. I want to leave a mark on this world that will last longer than my lifetime. Sure, I could build a million-dollar titanium monument of myself in the front yard. But deep inside, we know that truly eternal things cannot be seen. All things visible are transient and short-lived. In Econ class today, I learned about scarcity. World resources are scarce in a sense that it is limited and will one day run out. Economics: how a society allocates scarce resources in order to satisfy unlimited wants. Then I realized the same may be true for the economy of an individual human being. All of us have been given a set amount of time and energy: the number of years we live … even the number of white hairs that grow on our heads has been established from the beginning of time. As much as we want to do everything and be everything, we cannot. I want to be fluent in Spanish AND learn how to surf. I want to play in a popular rock band AND be the editor of National Geographic. But I cannot. Everything involves a tradeoff. An extra minute I spend pursuing one dream will leave me with a minute less with another.

Learning to say “No”

Therefore, knowing that one of my dreams is to do something of eternal value here on earth (and also knowing that I’ve limited time and energy to achieve it); I need to learn how to say “no” to the things that will hold me down. I set my eyes on the prize; there shouldn’t be a moment when I choose to look back. No time for regret. A few momentary “No’s” for one beautiful, priceless “Yes”. Is it worth it? I think it is.

The Parables of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl

44"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.

45"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.

Residents of 617 Broad

Carson and Jeremy are from Concordia, MO. My housemates are hardcore. In the purest, best sense of course. They love Jesus... and they also love hardcore/ punk/ rock/ metal all rolled into one. I'm glad they're not Goth though... I can't let them hog the only mirror in the house, putting on garish makeup! lol =p They don't wear makeup, by the way. And neither do I. Fear not! We play Super Nintendo, that's the closest to "girly" thing we do. Hahha... my hope is for brotherhood to thrive in 617. That we would grow in Christ together, pray for one another, rejoice and help other people in their quest for true life. Let your will be done, Lord. We are merely jars made of unworthy clay, knowing the grace of God, holding the ultimate treasure in us. You increase, let us decrease. Amen

The Batik Bunch

Don't they look awesome in batik? Btw, the girls are just visiting, they dont live with us. Left to right: Jeremy, King, Carson, Megan, Hannah

Selamat Hari Merdeka!

I forgot about it. Gasp! Some Malaysian huh? I read chrischoong's blog this morning, and whoa.. THAT guy and his friends are true patriots. What an encouragement. But I think sharing a few thoughts about my country would be appropriate. Malaysia: What a place to grow up in. What a place to be born in. I am thankful and i am grateful. Without this country, without this community, I would never be the person I am today. Not that i'm totally happy with who i am. I have an eternity of growing, learning and worshipping to do. However, God's amazing plan is evident in all our lives. Look for it and be pleasantly surprised.

I already know Romans 8:28. I know Jeremiah 29:11. You know it as well as I do. The Lord, the one true living God, has the whole world in His hands. He will overlook nothing. Time and space are nothing to Him. He knows the names of all the stars. he knows the storehouses of hail and snow. Every movement of dust and haze(gasp!) does not surprise God! God reigns supreme! Everything started in him and finds its purpose in him. He holds it all together!

What's that got to do with Merdeka? 1957. What if some minute and infinitesimal thing were to be different in the history of Malaya? Or the world, for that matter? What would that mean to us? It would mean the world to us! To prove it, let's play the WHAT IF game: What if Parameswara didn't discover Melaka? What if the Chinese decided not to sail through the Straits of Melaka? What if India didn't have spices? What if the Malays created their own guns and cannons? What if the Japanese army won? What if Einstein didn't help create the atomic bomb? What if our grandparents didn't have the will to live on yam and sweet potatoes anymore? What if grandpa and grandma didn't meet each other just because grandpa didn't get hurt in the war? What if they decided to use birth-control? What if our parents decided to stay in Kuantan? What if Tunku Abdul Rahman was a racist? What if Mahathir wanted to be a doctor the rest of his life? You get my drift.

One little, infinitesimal difference in the history of the world... and you & I would be a totally different being with a totally different story. ...some of us.... would even cease to exist. *gasp* So i shall be grateful, i will rejoice because the Lord has done great things for us. Pray for malaysia.

1The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. 2Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation. 3This is the way our Savior God wants us to live. 1Tim 2(the message)
